Republic Day is of great historical importance in India. Every year 26th January is celebrated as Republic Day in the country since 1950. On this day, the Constitution of India came into effect. It marks the day when India truly got independent and became a sovereign, secular, socialist, democratic republic almost three years post-independence. Republic Day signifies the right spirit of independent and individual India. People all over the country celebrate this day with lot of pride, fervor, enthusiasm, zeal and happiness.

This year the 72nd Republic Day celebration was different as we are still in the grip of the Pandemic – Covid-19 (Corona Virus) and yet to overcome and fully conquer it. The Covid-19 Vaccine has just been launched. For this very reason this year Republic Day celebration was low key throughout the country keeping Covid Protocol in mind.

So unlike other years and keeping in mind the safety of the differently able students of the Institute, they were not part of this year Republic Day celebration. On this special occasion all the Special Teachers and Staff of Institute for the Handicapped and Backward People, assembled to celebrate Republic Day on the 26th January 2021 at the Special School for the Disabled at Behala, Kolkata and at our rural centre at Nityaberia, North 24 Parganas District, West Bengal. The National Flag was hoisted by the Special Teachers as our Secretary, Mrs Laily Khatun and our Founder Director, Dr. M. A. Hasan Sahani could not attend due to other commitment though both of them send their best wishes. The portrait of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was also garlanded as a mark of respect to the great man who needs no introduction. All the Special Teachers and Staff sang the National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana”.

The program ended with the Special Teachers thanking all present for making the programme a success.

Thank you.

With best regards,

Dr.M.A.Hasan Sahani,
