BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION

Institute for the Handicapped and Backward People (IHBP) was founded as a registered society in the year 2000 by Dr. M. A. Hasan Sahani, a freelance Social Worker by desire, with the passion to help by education, training, rehabilitation and serve the deprived disabled and the disadvantaged People.

NATURE OF THE ORGANIZATION

This is a non-governmental, non-profitable & non-political, Philanthropic and state level organization.  Specially, we are promoting humanitarians service for care, education, training and rehabilitation and for persons with disabilities, orphan children, destitute, and vulnerable women.

INSPIRATION OF THE ORGANISATION

Dr. M. A. Hasan Sahani is the key competence of the governing body and dedicated social worker. He is the founder of this organization and it’s established in 2001. He and seventeen members of his family i.e. Father’, Mother’ Sisters and Brothers all numbering 17 (seventeen) members are disabled. Inspiration created at their with a  mission is to  bring about positive changes in the lives of all people with disabilities, children, women, old age and backward people through a range of well thought services to enhance their sustainable skills and knowledge and give them opportunities to exercise their constitutional rights and their full participation and contribution to the community.

THE TARGET AREAS AND GROUP

Institute for the Handicapped and Backward People is  active in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Kolkata district of the State of West Bengal, India. The key target groups are Backward classes, SC, ST, Minority children and among them girls and Children with disability.

ORGANISATION’S ACTIVITIES

Institute for the Handicapped and Backward People is doing credible work in the field of disability since 2001. We are providing education with Special School for Hearing Impaired, Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder and vulnerable children age group1-18. We also provide Community Based Rehabilitation and Vocational Training for the adult disabled boys, girls and women absolutely free of cost.

MISSION OF THE ORGANISATION

Institute for the Handicapped & Backward People, is to bring about positive changes in the lives of vulnerable people such as disabled, children, women, old aged and backward people through a range of well thought services to enhance their sustainable skills and knowledge and give them opportunities to exercise their constitutional rights and their full participation and contribution to the community of the society.

VISION OF THE ORGANISATION

Our organization realizes that in all development process, Disabled, children and women’s participation must be ensured and community involvement and active participation is essential for sustainability of the programs and balanced development. Institute for the Handicapped and Backward People invests in the potentials of these individuals through community development initiatives targeting Food Security, Economic Development, Primary Health and Basic Education, Emergency management initiatives and provide aid to disaster survivors.
