On the occasion of World Disabled Day, the Institute for the Handicapped and Backward People (IHBP) celebrated a remarkable event on 3rd December, 2023. The Institute, dedicated to the holistic development of differently-abled individuals, organized a spirited rally that echoed the theme of inclusion and empowerment.

The vibrant procession saw the enthusiastic participation of differently-abled students, dedicated special educators, IHBP staff, and the proud parents of beneficiaries. Wheelchairs carrying cerebral palsy child and severe profound differently able students were decorated with balloons. At the starting of the rally all the students were provided with a Tetra Pack of Maaza and chips. The rally commenced from the Special School and traversed through the neighboring areas and locality, culminating at the 14 No. Bus Stand on Diamond Harbour Road before making its way back to the institute through Roy Bahadur Road. We like to special mention that at 14 No. Bus Stand, Behala, students performed a remarkable dance performance which made the audience spellbound. The vibrant atmosphere was marked by laughter, camaraderie, and a collective sense of purpose as the diverse group made their way through the streets. Along the rally route students, special educators and staff tied band on the wrist of people and gave éclairs chocolates and balloons.

The event aimed not only to raise awareness about the challenges faced by differently-abled individuals but also to showcase their capabilities and resilience. It was a testament to the institute’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society that values the unique strengths of every individual. To conclude the celebration on a festive note, all participants were treated to a heartwarming gesture – a food packet containing delicious Chicken Biryani. This thoughtful touch added a special touch to the day, fostering a sense of community and appreciation among the participants.

In essence, the celebration at IHBP went beyond the typical observance of World Disabled Day; it became a powerful testament to the institute’s dedication to creating a world where differences are not just accepted but celebrated, ensuring that every individual, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive. Last but not the least we sincerely thank Behala Police Station of Kolkata Police for their support in smooth and successful completion of the rally.
